{"id":6297,"date":"2025-06-25T09:50:44","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T00:50:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dandelions.co.jp\/blog\/?p=6297"},"modified":"2025-06-25T09:50:44","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T00:50:44","slug":"in-house-study-session-about-git","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dandelions.co.jp\/blog\/blog\/2025\/06\/25\/in-house-study-session-about-git\/","title":{"rendered":"In-House Study Session: About Git"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We held an in-house study session on Friday, April 11th this year, so we\u2019d like to share a summary.The theme was &#8220;About Git.&#8221; This blog post is written by <strong>Xig<\/strong> from Team 0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this study session, we started by explaining what Git is in the first place,<br>and then actually used Git to experience what it can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session followed the structure below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>What is Git?<\/li><li>Explanation of Git tools and web services<\/li><li>Setting up Git<\/li><li>Basic concepts of Git (terminology and what it can do)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/dandelions.co.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/S__197615623_0-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6009\" width=\"524\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dandelions.co.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/S__197615623_0-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dandelions.co.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/S__197615623_0-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dandelions.co.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/S__197615623_0-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dandelions.co.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/S__197615623_0-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/dandelions.co.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/S__197615623_0-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Inside the Session<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is Git?<\/strong><br>Since there were participants unfamiliar with Git or who hadn\u2019t used it in a while,<br>we started from the very basics: &#8220;What is Git anyway?&#8221;<br>Personally, I\u2019ve had some minimal experience with version control systems like SVN and Git,<br>but nowadays it feels like most projects around me manage their assets with Git.<br>How about you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Explanation of Git Tools and Web Services<\/strong><br>Here, we briefly introduced some tools and web services related to Git.<br>As for Git tools, those bundled with development environments like Eclipse are probably the most well-known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>[Web Services]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>GitHub \u2605 Used during this session<\/li><li>AWS CodeCommit<\/li><li>Gitea<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>[Git Tools]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>TortoiseGit \u2605 Used during this session<\/li><li>SourceTree<\/li><li>Development tools like Eclipse<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Setting Up Git<\/strong><br>In this session, to get hands-on with Git,<br>we used GitHub as the web service and TortoiseGit as a visual Git tool.<br>Just between us, when signing up for a GitHub account, email verification was required.<br>I tried doing it the day before the session,<br>but it took three hours for the verification email to arrive, so I was panicking a bit inside!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Basic Concepts of Git<\/strong><br>We experienced a full range of Git operations, including:<br>&#8220;Cloning,&#8221; &#8220;Committing,&#8221; &#8220;Checking Differences,&#8221; &#8220;Viewing Logs,&#8221;<br>&#8220;Undoing Changes,&#8221; &#8220;Pulling,&#8221; &#8220;Pushing,&#8221; &#8220;Conflict Resolution,&#8221;<br>&#8220;Creating Branches,&#8221; and &#8220;Sending Pull Requests.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing we noticed during the session was that the term &#8220;master branch&#8221;<br>is no longer commonly used.<br>It seems the term &#8220;main branch&#8221; has become the standard,<br>as &#8220;master&#8221; is now considered a potentially discriminatory term.
